Using video analysis when having a lesson is a great help to both the coach and the pupil. The coach can see in minute detail things that the naked eye can not, however the greatest benefit is to the pupil. 

 

The biggest hurdle to overcome when trying to make swing changes is getting the pupil to totally believe that their swing actually does what we have told them. The camera never lies as they say, and in this instance nothing can be truer. The usual response when people see their swing faults for the first time is "I can't believe I do that!"

 

Once the pupil totally accepts the problem making the change is easier. The next hurdle is getting the pupil to repeat what has been asked of them. A great quote I use is "what you feel in the swing is not always real", once the pupil has seen what the swing change looks like and thus how it needs to feel - the rest is plain sailing!

 

Video analysis does not suit everyone, however if you have ever wondered what you actually look like it is a real "eye opener"
